OFP Workshop II Overview

Duisburg, Germany was the setting for the second OFP Workshop weakend organized by Mapfact and Construction Factory and sponsored by Codemasters and Bohemia Interactive. Again, the workshop was a full success.

Day 1

Up till the afternoon coffee break all the experts shared their broad knowledge with their big eared audience. Following, Spinor presented the Command Engine 2 from the COC Mod with co member Dinger presenting his VBS1 Mortar Simulation that could be modified for OFP.

Next up was Q, with the WGL Teaser Video edited by Kenwort of the OFP Movie Makers and an announcement that WGL 5 will be released shortly. Hot on Q’s heels was a demo by Sniping-Jack of the unfinished release Candidate 2 of the WRP-tool V1.0 by Dschulle and Snake_Man due for release soon.

Vektorboson presented new config tools including Config Checker, Recon, bin2cpp and the PBO Packer. Exact error messages will tell you about wrong characters or missing braces saving time and stress when editing addons.

A new OFP project by Silola from Mapfact will hope to create tense multiplayer battles using the Group Command Console similar too VBS1’s Command Engine. This offers possibilities to send troops into the AOR, let them patrol areas, search for enemies or join other groups. Not content, Silola is going for full MP functionality so several players on different sides can send their troops against each other.

No OFP party would not be complete without a little Armed Assault so Rastavovich, formerly of DKM, now working for BIS on Game 2, talked about editing possibilities in Armed Assault.

Day 2

With the close of Day 2, it looks like a good time was had by all, if the reports of lack of sleep are anything to go by. The delegates still managed to get a little fun in between what seems to have been an intensive Sunday coding session. It is probably a little sad that this will probably be the last OFP Workshop as Armed Assault is just around the corner.
